Choose the right biodegradable plastic bags to shape a green and healthy life

company-news | Time:2023-08-17

Since the implementation of the "Plastic Ban Order", my country's environmental protection work has achieved great results. Many supermarkets and restaurants are gradually promoting the use of plastic bags marked "degradable", but there are also some non-degradable plastic bags hidden in them to "fish in troubled waters". Only when we master the method of identifying degradable plastic bags, can we use "magic" to defeat "black magic".

What is a biodegradable plastic bag

Degradable plastic bags are made by adding a certain amount of additives during the production process, such as starch, modified starch or other cellulose, photosensitizers, biodegradants, etc., to make them easy to degrade in the natural environment. Degradable plastic bags will not pollute the environment and can be recycled.

The degradation of plastics refers to the end of the polymer life cycle and the reduction of molecular weight, manifested in brittleness, cracking, softening, hardening and loss of mechanical strength. It takes decades or even hundreds of years to degrade ordinary plastic bags. Landfilling or burning non-degradable plastic bags will pollute the environment. Therefore, biodegradable plastic bags are a very meaningful invention.

Classification of degradable plastics

Degradable plastics are generally divided into four categories:

· photodegradable plastic

Photodegradable plastics are mixed with photosensitizers in plastics, and the plastics are gradually decomposed under sunlight.

Photodegradable plastics belong to an earlier generation of degradable plastics. The disadvantage is that the degradation time is difficult to predict due to sunlight and climate changes, so the degradation time cannot be controlled.

· biodegradable plastic

Biodegradable plastics are plastics that can be completely decomposed into low-molecular compounds under the action of microorganisms.

It is characterized by convenient storage and transportation, and a wide range of applications. It can be used not only in agricultural mulch and packaging bags, but also in the field of medicine.

· photo/biodegradable plastic

Photo/biodegradable plastic is an ideal degradable plastic, which has the characteristics of both photodegradable and microbial degradable plastics.

Its degradation mechanism is: biodegradants such as starch are first biodegraded, weakening the polymer matrix, making the polymer matrix loose, thereby increasing the surface area.

· water degradable plastic

Water-degradable plastics are water-absorbing substances added to plastics, which can be dissolved in water after use. They are mainly used in medical and sanitary appliances (such as medical gloves).

Choose plastic bags and refuse to step on pits

· look a appearance

You can check whether there are impurities in the plastic bag in a well-lit place every day. Even if the inferior plastic bag is transparent, there may be many small black spots inside, and even cracks can be seen on the bag.

· fell

Put the plastic bag into the water. If it sinks to the bottom, it means that it is a poor quality material. If it floats on the water surface, the quality is better. A good plastic bag should feel flat and smooth. If it feels rough, it is not recommended to use it.

· smell

Inferior plastic bags can obviously smell disgusting, and good materials will not smell special.

· listen to the sound

Good-quality plastic bags make a buzzing sound when shaken.

Having said so much, the editor still recommends that everyone start from the source, start from each person, consciously reduce the use of plastic bags, and reuse plastic bags, so as to truly reduce the damage to the earth's ecological environment.
